Is it worth it?

Yes, and they are the piece that makes the hallway lantern work: two pillar candles with a flickering wick, a remote, and a timer that switches them on for two, four, six or eight hours at the same time every day. They are rated waterproof, so a porch is fine too. The catch is that they are plastic, not wax, and the listing says so in its materials table; up close they are a good imitation, not a candle. Each one runs on two AA batteries, included, and the remote's button battery is inside it.

Is it for you?

Get it if
  • Inside a lantern or on a mantel where a flame is a worry
  • A porch or doorstep: rated waterproof by the listing
  • Anyone who wants the hall lit at dusk without remembering to do it
Skip it if
  • Anyone who wants real wax to the touch — these are plastic
  • A tall taper holder: they are 7.6cm-wide pillars
  • Anyone who wants a scent

Homemory flameless pillar candles: questions answered

Do Homemory flameless candles have a timer?
Yes. The remote sets a two, four, six or eight hour timer, and the candles switch on at the same time every day until you change it, according to the Amazon UK listing.
Are Homemory flameless candles real wax?
No. The listing's materials table gives plastic. They are shaped and coloured like a candle, with a moving LED wick, but they are not wax to the touch.
Can Homemory flameless candles go outside?
The listing rates them IP55 waterproof, with a slanted top so rain does not pool round the wick. A porch or doorstep is what they are made for.
What batteries do Homemory flameless candles take?
Two AA batteries in each candle, included, and a button cell in the remote. The listing says to keep the remote's battery away from children and pets.
